Bass tournament

CANDLEWICK LAKE – On Saturday Sept. 26, Candlewick Lake held the 4th annual Wounded Warriors Bass Tournament in memory of Iraq Veteran James Gosnell.

Boaters gathered at the marina at 6:30 a.m. for registration and to pay the entrance fee of $50 per team and an extra optional $20 fee for the big bass pot.

The teams fished until 1 p.m. bringing in their three largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Final winners were determined by total weight of each team’s catch. Each team had to have six fish and had to measure 14 inches long or more.

Ryan Foster’s team mate backed out at the last minute leaving him to fish the tournament alone but that didn’t matter to Foster; he single handily took first place for the second year in a row with a combined weight of 5.80 pounds and tied Chuck Hart for Big Bass.

Both Foster and Hart’s bass weighed in at 2.20 pounds. The two Big Bass winners split the pot.

To show their support and appreciation for the veterans, half of all winnings were donated to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. The total brought in was $224, which meant that $112 went to the Foundation and $112 was paid out in prize money.

The tournament was sponsored by The Candlewick Anglers, Poplar Grove Pro Hardware, and Dandy Donuts.
