BELVIDERE – At a home game set between the courts of Belvidere High School and Belvidere South Middle School, the Belvidere Bucs girls’ tennis team faced off against Harlem High School on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Harlem team won 4-1.

In the singles matches, Kaitlyn Goston of Belvidere faced Emerald K. Emerald won both sets, 6-2 and 6-0.

In the second and last singles match, Yaneth Gonzolez of Belvidere played against Harlem player Elizabeth Koritz who won both sets. Koritz won the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-2.

In the doubles matches, Emma Knaup and Madalyn Deardorff of Belvidere faced off against Sydni Nass and Taiah Gallisath. The Belvidere duo won both sets. The first set they won 6-4 and the second they won 6-2.

That match proved to be the only victory for the Bucs. Harlem took the next two matches, which were both close calls.

Evette Escobar and Molly Vebeck faced Emma Garcia and Tambryn Hecox of Harlem. The first set was a tie 6-6, but went in the favor of Harlem in the end. The second set ended 7-5 in Harlem’s favor, giving the match win to Harlem High School.

In the last doubles match, Belvidere’s own, Bryanna Williams and Natalie Cortez lost two of the three sets to Harlem players Adriana VanWam and Karissa Littlejohn. The first set ended in Belvidere’s favor with a lead of 6-4, but the second and third sets both ended with Harlem victories with a win of 6-4 both sets.

With only one doubles match win for Belvidere, Harlem took home the victory with a 4-1 lead.
