BELVIDERE – Marie Huntress, 93, of Belvidere, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, at Maple Crest Care Centre in Belvidere.
She was born April 17, 1922 in Poplar Grove Township, Boone County, Ill. She was the daughter of Ben and Ann (Darmon) Lovell. She graduated from high school and attended Graceland College.
She married John O. Huntress Sr. on Jan. 25, 1947. Marie worked at Eagle and Piggly Wiggly in Belvidere and was a member of Community of Christ Church in Rockford, Ill. She loved to play the organ at church, singing with Silver Bells, taking care of her yard and mowing the grass. Marie and her husband enjoyed touring the U.S. on their motorcycle.
She is survived by her son, John O. (Leslie) Huntress Jr. of Burlington, Wis.; grandchildren, Raiyaa and Oliver Huntress, Jeremy (Kris) Syring; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brenden, and Evan.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John O. Huntress Sr.; daughter Jean Syring.
There will be a visitation Sunday, Feb. 7 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Belvidere Funeral Home Inc. in Belvidere, Ill.
There will be a visitation Monday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. also at the funeral home. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Poplar Grove Cemetery in Poplar Grove, Ill.
