BELVIDERE – Hall-of-famer Reggie Jackson often referred to himself as “the straw that stirs the drink” while leading Oakland and the Yankees to some of the most dominating dynasties in MLB.
“Always Revved” Austin Revolinski, who has a legitimate shot at becoming the first Buc in a long time to garner first-team all-conference honors in three sports as a junior, continues to lead Belvidere basketball with a developing supporting cast under head coach Aaron Pearson and top assistant Nate Lister that is priming for the post-season.
Following up on a hard-fought 66-53 victory at Freeport on Dec. 11, the Bucs salted the Pretzels again 65-45 despite the visitors’ feisty determination to upset the hosts with a 16-12 lead after the first quarter behind 6’4″ behemoth Travis Buckwalter who scored six of his team-leading 10 points.
Revolinski, who is “Always Revved” to take control of games in jeopardy at both ends of the court, kept the Bucs within striking distance by scoring nine of his game-leading 15 points in the first.
Belvidere took a slim 28-27 lead at the half before dominating play after intermission for the decisive victory.
Senior Eric Munoz played a strong point most of the evening and added nine points to the total.
Despite limited action, senior Deante Barnes showed spurts of dominating the boards and added eight points.
Junior Xavier Dent, who plays very long in controlling the boards with a plethora of rebounds on the offensive end, added eight points as juniors Nate Horton (nine), Joey Hernandez (eight), and Will Morris (eight) completed the scoring.
Senior Matt Kopp and juniors Austin Brockmann and Jacob Rodriguez also saw action.
