LOVES PARK – Loves Park Police Chief Rodney Scott turned in his resignation effective June 2, Mayor Darryl Lindberg noted, in order to “focus on his family.”

Lindberg continued, “Until a new chief is selected Deputy Chiefs Chuck Lynde and Mike McCammond will share the duties and responsibilities of police department operations.”

Scott would have had 15 years service with the department this coming September. When still a police officer, he served on the Harlem School Board. A little over two years ago, Scott was named chief when former police chief, Jim Puckett, retired from the department.

In his time as chief, Lindberg said, “We could not fault him in his job, he was always responsive, and he worked hard to organize and modernize the department with the help of McCammond and Lynde. They are all very professional and dedicated in the law enforcement field. The resignation of Chief Scott was his choice, he did not want to be a distraction to the department.”

Scott had reported himself to the mayor on a personal issue about five weeks ago, was suspended for one month and had returned to work for a week before deciding to resign.

The mayor said he plans to name a new chief in about three weeks.
