Harlem High School Athletic Director, Kurt Weigt, announces the hiring of Wayne Otto as the new Head Varsity Wrestling Coach at Harlem High School. Coach Wayne Otto was approved by the Harlem School Board at their meeting on June 29, 2016.

Wayne Otto is in his 20th year in education. He is a graduate of UW– La Crosse in Wisconsin. After receiving his BA from UW-La Crosse, he returned to school to obtain his Health Education Certification from Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn.

Wayne has been coaching wrestling for over 25 years, which started while in high school volunteering with youth programs. He has over 21 years of experience as a head wrestling coach, coaching in several states including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Tennessee and Georgia.

While in Tennessee he advanced his team to the state duals, placing in the top 12. In the individual state portion of the competition, they advanced 10 wrestlers to the state meet and placed 8th overall (at that time Tennessee only had 1 classification). He developed 3 finalists, a 5th, 4th and 215 lb. State Champion.

Wayne developed a competitive program while in Georgia where he advanced another team to the state duals in the largest classification. 

During his time there, he advanced seven wrestlers to the state meet two years in a row. He developed many state placers and another state champion in the heavyweight division.

Wayne has also coached football, where he was part of three different state championship teams in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He has also coached track and softball during his coaching tenure.
