Halloween has come and gone. The candy has been eaten and costumes stashed away for another year. November crept in with barely a whimper. This year draws to a close with elections looming on Tuesday, Nov. 8. I’m sure everyone will be happy to see this round of elections over and done with. The Roscoe/Rockton First Annual BOOtique, Saturday, Oct. 29 was a great success. The inaugural adult trick or treat event drew lots of attention. I hope to see it become a yearly community happening. Ladies Night at ZaZu Gift Company in Roscoe is Nov. 3. (Sorry!  I know it’s kind of short notice!) Ladies, get your girlfriends together and hop on over to ZaZu’s for wine, desserts and free giveaways from 7 to 9 p.m. Owner April Kruse said there will be lots of special discounts on items in the store for groups. The more ladies in your group, the bigger the discount.

Do you have a girl scout in your family? How about attending a tea party? Mariner Ship 361 Girl Scout Troop in Roscoe will be hosting a Girl Scout Tea Party at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, 7404 Elevator Road, in Roscoe, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., on Sunday, Nov 20. Come for treats, tea, and fun activities. Cost is $13 for a couple and an additional $5 for each added person in the family. RSVP is required. “Miss Manners” will be there to pass on table etiquette. Those attending can bring their own favorite tea cups or they can purchase a cup for $2. You can call Loren at (815) 985-4555 or Girl Scout Leader Louise Glon at (815) 988-9515.

Has anyone been keeping track of the new Casey’s General Store going up on the corner of Rt. 251 and Bridge St.? The project has taken a while to get off the ground, but looks like they are finally making good progress.

Besides the highly important Presidential and State elections on Nov, 8, there will be a couple of Tax Referendums on the ballot. Roscoe is asking residents for a one percent sales tax increase, from 7.25 to 8.25, to be used for infrastructure within the Village. Also, The Hononegah Community School District Board of Education voted to place a Referendum on the ballot authorizing expansion and upgrades at Hononegah High School.  Passing the Referendum would authorize the Board to sell bonds totaling $44 million.  Get out and vote. Make your voice heard!

Here it is nearly Thanksgiving again. This holiday seems to get lost in the Christmas hype. Not so at my house! This is the holiday when everyone comes home. Our three children, their spouses and eight grandchildren will gather at our house for three days of feasting, taking pictures and getting caught up with each other. For us, it’s the best time of the year. On Thanksgiving morning, before digging into the turkey and pumpkin pie, why not join runners for the Thanksgiving Turkey Trot at NorthPointe Health and Wellness Center, 5605 Rockton Road in Roscoe. Runners line up for a 5K, and walkers for a one mile walk beginning at 8:30 a.m.  This year there is a Tot Walk, for kids 5 and under. Sign up is before the race. Call NorthPointe at (815) 525-4900 for more information. And, rounding off the month of November – the Annual Roscoe Christmas Parade and Party on Saturday, Nov. 26. The Parade begins at 4:40 p.m. Lighted floats, music, Santa and his (firemen) reindeer will be parading down Main Street to the Tree Lighting Ceremony on the corner of Main & Bridge Sts. at 5 p.m. After the tree lighting, everyone is invited into the Village Hall for hot chocolate and cookies.  Santa will be seated in his favorite chair to talk to the kids about what’s on their Christmas list.  Kids will be able to have their picture taken with Santa at no charge. That takes care of November. But, there is more in store for the month of December, starting with the annual Rockton Christmas Walk, Dec. 3 and 4.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and don’t forget to take the word to heart and give thanks.
