According to the Lupus Foundation of America an estimated 1.5 million people worldwide have a form of lupus. Lupus mostly strikes women of childbearing age; however men, children and teenagers may also develop lupus. Most develop the disease between the ages of 15-44. Lupus is an autoimmune disease.

Those who have lupus can experience significant symptoms such as pain, extreme fatigue, hair loss, cognitive issues, and physical impairments that affect every part of their lives. Many have been said to suffer from cardiovascular disease, strokes, disfiguring rashes, and painful joints while others might have no visible symptoms.

This type of chronic pain can seriously hinder the lives of those it is affecting, they aren’t able to do what they normally do or be able to live their lives happily as they are ruled by what is going on inside. Many treatments can be provided for issues such as this, however, in recent years, alternative medicines have been administered for chronic pain relief and other symptoms tied to it. CBD oil is one of these treatments, alongside its counterpart medical marijuana, both of these can help in varying ways with the up and down levels of chronic pain. They also may be combined with alternative physical therapies like yoga, to help ease the body whilst keeping it moving and functioning to the best of its ability.

There are four different types of lupus, systematic, cutaneous, drug-induced, and neonatal.

May is Lupus Awareness month and Advantage Chiropractic Wellness in Roscoe invited the public to gain knowledge at an open house held on Thursday, May 10.
