Nancy M. Johnson, 91, of Belvidere, passed away, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 19, at Anam Care.

She was born March 8, 1925 in her parent’s home in Belvidere, to Hazel (Blake) and Allen Jukes.

Nancy attended Belvidere schools, graduating from Belvidere High School as Valedictorian of Class of 1943. She graduated from Hamilton School of Commerce in Rockford in May of 1944.

Nancy worked at K-B canning Co. as secretary until her marriage to LaVerne Johnson on Nov. 30, 1946. She returned to the work force in January of 1960 in the office of the X-ray Department of St. Joseph Hospital, retiring from there after 40 years when the hospital closed. She also worked at DeWane’s Livestock Exchange as secretary for Friday auctions.

Nancy was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Belvidere, serving in various capacities and on various committees over the years. She was a member of Boone County Historical Society, Boone County Arts Council, and Friends of Ida Public Library. Nancy loved knitting, decorating cakes, and watching the Chicago Cubs.

Nancy is loved and will be missed by her two children, Melody (Terry) Schrader, and Barry (Emily) Johnson; three grandchildren, Rhonda Schrader, Bradley Schrader, and Kai Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Timothy and Matthew Schrader. She is preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne.

Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, located at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., with Rev. Monty Fox officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery.
