A yellow Pecatonica school bus was deployed to transport local Veterans to Pecatonica CUSD’s Veterans Day Celebration. Twenty-four veterans were honored Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, for Veterans Day at the Pecatonica High School Library.

Veterans were assisted by ROTC students Jacob Storey, Jacob Kobes, Max Sager and Blake Alexander and accompanied by sixteen eager elementary school students. High school staff and students learned that the veterans were coming and greeted them upon arrival with an impromptu parade of clapping and cheers.

In their honor the school sidewalk was decorated with American flags, a big welcome sign was stationed at the library door, and the theme was red, white and blue.

Once in the library, the ROTC presented the American flag and the sixteen elementary school students recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The PHS kitchen’s famous apple crisp was served, along with ice cream and coffee. After refreshments the elementary students presented veterans with flags that they had made. Thank you veterans for serving our country and allowing us to honor this service.
