Trudy Catherine Metzger, 65, of Rockford, formerly of Belvidere, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 24, in the loving presence of her family at Wesley Willows in Rockford.

The daughter of Walter and Marlette (Winterland) Metzger, Trudy was born on Aug. 27, 1951 in Belvidere. She worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Belvidere YMCA.  For many years, she was employed with the City of Belvidere as a deputy city clerk.

Trudy was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served in the Ladies Guild and assisted the late Rev. Philip Hanson. She also was a member of the Mary Martha League, Christ Care Group, Wesley Willows Auxiliary, and National TTT society. Trudy enjoyed reading, listening to music, and playing bingo. She will be missed for her love of volunteering.

Here to cherish Trudy’s memory are her sisters, Roxann (Steve) Grenlund, and Judy Jacox; brothers, Dennis (Candy) Metzger and David Metzger; nieces and nephews, Jessica (Luke) Borchardt and Kayla (Matthew) Clayton, Richey Weischedel, and Blake Weischedel, Christine, Daniel (Holley), Elizabeth Metzger, and Zachary and Alyssa Metzger; great-nieces and nephews, Drake, Lola, and Phoenix Clayton, and Colton Borchardt; brother-in-law, Randy (Kelly) Weischedel, and Renata Fritz and family.

Trudy is predeceased by her parents, Walter in 1996, and Marlette in 2001; brother, Gary in 1995; sister, Renee Weischedel in 2008, and her grandparents.

A special thank you to the staff at Wesley Willows and Heartland Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Trudy.

A funeral service, celebrating Trudy’s life was held at 11a.m., Thursday, Dec. 29, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 1045 Belvidere Road in Belvidere with Rev. Allan Buss, officiating. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, at 218 W. Hurlbut Ave. in Belvidere, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., before the service at church. Burial took place at Highland Garden of Memories.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Muscular Dystrophy Association, or Wesley Willows Good Samaritan Fund. Livestream of service was available at www.ImmanuelBelvidere.org. Memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 30 at Wesley Willows Chapel, at 4141 N. Rockton Ave. in Rockford.
