At the Feb 22, Roscoe Village Committee of the Whole meeting on Feb. 22, Chairman Kevin Muradian cautioned trustees not to get bogged down again in dis-cussions about fixing vs. replacing the police depart-ment building.
“I am asking for an up-date tonight. Let’s not rehash information from the last year and a halfs” Muradian said.
Roscoe Village Zoning Board Director Scott Sanders presented his views regarding the building. Sanders said he was asked by President Krienke to take a look at the building and the plans, and give the board his opinion.
Sanders presented several options that he thought could bring the cost down in the new building. “Kluber (Architect and Engineers) gave us bare bones. I think we need to take another look at their plans. There are other op-tions.”
“Sometimes looking for changes to save money means you have to re-configure.” he said. “Rede-signing the building could save several hundred thou-sand dollars.” Sanders said the size of the building could be scaled down.
Some suggestions were to share conference room space with the village hall, re-configure space in village hall for police department personnel offices, change the size and/ or number of windows, and re-configure storage and garage capacity.
Sanders suggested talking with Kluber to clarify the estimated square footage which looks to be about 10,000 sq. ft. on the present plans. “I don’t see any more than 9,100 sq. ft.” This could bring down the cost by up to $300.000.”
Sanders said he didn’t talk to anyone that thought it would be wise to save the building. “The building is really a mess. Not many companies will be interested in fixing it up.”
