Color and splendor of the imaginative world of Doctor Seuss based dialogue jumped off of the page and onto the Hononegah High School Performing Arts Center stage. Spotlight Youth Theater presented Seussical the Musical Jr. Directed by Andrew Trotter and ultra- talented cast of 92 youth unfolded this high energy, moving and fun musical in a way that would make Dr. Seuss proud.
The music for Seussical the Musical Jr. was written by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens who co-wrote the book. Flaherty and Ahrens were joined by Eric Idle in these works. Bryan Louiselle served as the original Su-pervisor of the music, adaptions and production.
Immediately after the curtain rose the full company joined in performing a lively version of “Oh the Thinks you can think!” After “Horton Hears a Who,” action moved at a swift and efficient pace capturing the audience’s attention! Show stopping dance numbers and songs ranged from very mellow tunes to more uplifting styles. A majority of the scenes incorporated a full cast along with a perfect mixture of ensembles, duets and incredible solos.
Main action revolves around Horton the Elephant played by the ultra- talented Luke Primrose. As Horton the Ele-phant Primrose tugged on the heartstrings in every scene he appeared in as he was faced with a double challenge. Horton must protect his tiny friend JoJo (and the invisible who’s) from a world of naysayers and dangers and has been left to guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by
