In a battle of 2017 state bowling champions, Harlem’s boys team won the annual Ladies versus Gents Grudge Match by a mere 112 pins, 5,055 to 4,943.
The event was held March 5 at Forest Hills Lanes in Loves Park, home of both Huskie teams.
Senior Jake Nimtz ruled the day, coming within one pin of perfection when he rolled a 299 in the second of three games. For the day he had a match-high 753 series built on the 299 plus a 278 and a 176.
Eight bowled for each team with senior Dawson Jones closing his successful Harlem career with a 703 series. That one included single games of 226, 244 and 233. He rolled an 810 series during the 2015-16 season.
Next up were sophomore Noah Mandujano with a 657 series; junior Nick Howard, a 607; freshman Josh Roth, a 597; sophomore Cody Lawrence, a 588; junior Kyle Gerl, a 584; and senior Collin Day, a 566.
Sophomore Kayla Verstraete led the Girls with a 729 series that consisted of 233, 249 and 247 single games. She was followed by sophomore Becca Hagerman with a 676, senior Mylee McCracken with a 669 and junior Stephanie Richards with a 601.
High game of the day was McCracken’s 279.
Also contributing were sophomore Angel Grinnall with a 597 series; senior Alexandra Buffington, a 584; freshman Laura Bartelt, a 561; and junior Treasure Childs, a 523.
