Incumbent James Kidd is being opposed by Heather Kelley in his bid for re-election to the District 3 seat on the Machesney Park Village Board.
The election is April 4.
Trustee Kidd is no stranger when it comes to serving both the local and global communities.
Prior to being elected to the village board four years ago he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Endur-ing Freedom, during his 10 years in the United States Marine Corps.
He coordinated the Illinois Toys for Tots program for five years and in 2012 was named Marine of the Year by the Marine Corps League Rockford Detachment 083.
In addition, he has volunteered for the Carlson Boys and Girls Club as a football and basketball coach. He also volunteers for sideline and concession stand duties at Harlem school sporting activities.
He assists local organizations including Studio 11 and Harlem Community Center.
For eight years he supported local law enforcement by working as an officer in the Winnebago County Corrections Department. After leaving law enforcement, he started a local landscaping business.
That job allowed him to work with large companies, such as Delta Airlines and FedEx, as well as local businesses such as Family Video, Doc’s Upholstery and Machesney Mini-Warehouses.
“Many of my customers are local Machesney Park residents, who I am able to give discounts on services,” he said.
Kidd has attended both Rock Valley College and Kishwaukee Commkunity College.
During his four years as a member of the Machesney Park Village Board he said he has “remained stead-fast in supporting our local community and my voters.”
