“Our service unit originally talked about wanting to do a Powder Puff Derby back in May, 2017,” said Jeanine Hadley, volunteer Girl Scout leader. “We officially started planning it in Fall, 2017, and had the event on Jan. 20 this year. The committee for the Derby included a total of five Girl Scout leaders. Myself, Michelle Dixon, Tiffany Rakauskas, Melissa Michelsen, and Patti Potempa.

“The event was held at the First Baptist Church in Belvidere.  We had a total of 92 racers there.  We had winners by level.  The winners were:

Cadette & Up level: Abigail Varalli.

Junior winner: Noel Maina

Brownie Winner: Khloe Osborne

Daisy winner: Kaitlyn Sanders.

“A gold, silver, and bronze metal were award to the top three in each level. The four level winners went on to a grand championship round where Brownie winner Khloe Osborne took home the championship trophy.

“We also had a contest for car design categories in which there were three this year.  They were Best Girl Scout themed car, best TV/Movie theme & the most patriotic.  It was really fun seeing some of the car designs that everyone came up with.

“We were able to borrow a track from Boy Scout Troop
