There’s a lot of pressure on bowlers who qualify for state as individuals. While they usually have family and fans accompanying them to the tournament, they aren’t surrounded by teammates as usually is the case during the regular season.

While that’s difficult seniors Brynn Lambrecht, representing Belvidere North, and Holley Steelberg, from Belvidere, still experienced the thrill of being two of just 127 bowers who were at the nearby Cherry Bowl to compete against the state’s best in this year’s tournament.

Lambrecht found herself in rarified air late Feb. 16, after the first round of six games. She was in eighth place among those 127 bowlers with a 1,276 pinfall, averaging 212.7 per game. In fact, her score was the best among all individuals who weren’t there as a member of a qualifying team.

She had a 606 series during the morning’s three-game session, then stepped it up with games of 204, 261 and 205 Friday afternoon, for a 670 series and the 1,276 total.

Steelberg also qualified for Saturday’s final round, finishing in 43rd place with a 1,663 series. Her morning games were 211, 226 and 183, for a 620, then a 149, 189 and 210 for a 545, or total of 1,165 pins.

Lambrecht dropped to 17th place after the morning session on Feb. 17, with single games of 204, 181 and 170. But she moved up five places to 12th after an improved round of 227, 221 and 205 during the afternoon for a grand total of 2,484 pins. That’s an average of 207 per game, 16 pins out of ninth place and third among individuals not bowling with any of the 12 teams that made it to Saturday’s finals.

Steelberg was 69th after the Saturday morning round and moved up one place to a final position of 68th, averaging 182 per outing.

Next up for those girls
