K-H Open House 2014

KIRKLAND – The year 2015 marks the 10th Anniversary of the Kirkland-Hiawatha All-School Open House – a milestone year for all past graduates and past attendees to be sure to come — on Saturday, July 4, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the LRC (Hiawatha Elementary Learning Resource Center) in Kirkland Ill. Former and current teachers and staff are also urged to come.

Visiting with old friends and acquaintances is the focus; but there will be displays to trigger memories from the past– scrapbooks and photos of students and student activities, donated memorabilia, Open House photos, and other collections.  The Kirkland Historical Society will again bring composite class photos, year books, and Historical Society display and info.  Memberships and Kirkland calendars will be available.

The event includes all of this with no charge!   You are probably already coming to the 67th Kirkland Lions Club celebration in the park just beyond the school – with food, rides, booths, entertainment.[See schedule at Kirkland4thofJuly.com]

You can also find the Lions schedule at the Kirkland Hiawatha Facebook(plus read or post re: the Open House). Or use your phone or Facebook page to remind fellow classmates, friends, and family to join you in coming – helping make this 10th anniversary event a grand celebration of friendships and school memories and an appreciation of how Kirkland or Hiawatha schools have helped make us who we are.

The annual open house started in 2006 — five years after the 2001 All-School Reunion headed by Carole Buhl and a dedicated committee.

In 2006, Buhl organized the first Open-House gathering under a tent east of the park shelter house in Franklin Township Park in Kirkland in connection with the Kirkland Lions Fourth of July celebration. From 2007 to 2012, the growin

g event was held in the old Hiawatha Elementary gym.

Since 2012, the Open House continues to be enjoyed by those who come to the new LRC location.

Committee Chair, Nova (Johnson Larson) Quigley, Belvidere, and Carole (Strom) Buhl, Rockford, both graduates from the 1950s, look for Komets and Hawks to turn out in bigger numbers than ever forthis 10th anniversary.

They also thank the Lions and they thank everyone for their participation and help throughout this first decade. If you don’t come every year (or have never been), this is the year to join those who attend regularly so you too can enjoy connecting with people and memories.
