Candlewick Lake celebrated the 4th of July on the July 7 this year. If the 4th falls on a weekday the party is either the weekend before or after, so everyone can celebrate from morning till night.

The festivities started off at 11 a.m. with a parade. Motorized vehicles lined up at the Savannah golf course and headed to the northwest side of the lake to Friendship Park. There, people in costume or in their 4th of July finest walked along with the parade. Children, who had decorated their bikes, eagerly joined in the parade, which ended at the Recreation Center.

The Lakeview Eatery restaurant had the grills going and people set up tents while children cooled off at the beach and listened to dance music. The Baby Raez Band began playing at 7 p.m. and continued until 11 p.m. They took a break at dusk for fireworks over the lake. The fireworks were some of the best I’ve seen. Boat owners took friends and family out to get a close up view of the display.

Thank heaven Mother Nature came through with a perfect summer day.
