The Belvidere Police and Fire Departments took their friendly rivalry to the softball field at Belvidere High School for a closely determined win.

The Belvidere Fire and Police Departments squared off in their second annual Battle of the Badges softball game at Belvidere High School on Saturday, July 28. The Police Department won for the second year in a row, posting a one run victory in the 20-19 slugfest. Plenty of errors, base-running miscues, and, at times, timely hitting highlighted the game. The Fire Department had what seemed like an insurmountable seven-run lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning only to have the police score eight unanswered runs and then shutting the Fire Department down in the top of the seventh to secure the victory.
