Staff members and volunteers of the Veterans Assistance Commission of Boone County reached out to more than 300 people while manning their booth at the Boone County Fair in early August.

“This is probably our biggest event of the year in terms of community outreach,” said VACBC Superintendent Robert Ryder. “We love seeing many of the Veterans we’ve helped over the years again at the fair and we enjoy making new contacts with Veterans and their family members who may need our services.”

Organizing and staffing the VACBC booth for the six day fair takes a significant amount of time and effort and couldn’t have been done with out the help of numerous folks stepping up to help.

“We couldn’t accomplish our goal of staffing our booth all six days, 12 hours a day without the help of our volunteers,” said Elizabeth Carville, Assistant Superintendent at the VACBC and the main organizer of the event. “It is a significant commitment on the part of everyone involved and a tremendous amount of work from putting the booth up Monday night to taking it down at 9:30 Sunday night, but it is all worth it.”
