The Belvidere-Boone County Food Pantry in Capron opened their doors on Thursday, Sept. 13 so interested people could view their newly expanded and organized facilities and to highlight Hunger Action Month.

“We are here to serve Boone County residents,” said Executive Director Danice Loveridge. “We must meet the federal guidelines for a food pantry and we serve 80 to 100 families per week – approximately 1600 people each month. We supply four community meals at churches each week so people can have fellowship in a community environment.

“We supply snacks at North Boone schools for 500 children each year. The schools do not pay for these snacks. We also supply snack bags for the mobile library during the summer. We are always aware of hunger and its effects on children.

“We also stock non-food items, personal care products, and items that food stamps do not pay for. If people are struggling to buy food, then they are also struggling for personal care items, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, even diapers for their kids.

“We need to limit how much fresh food items a family can choose each week but some items are unlimited. We also have unlimited clothing and household items, home office and school supplies, toys, books, shoes, curtains, bedding, and more.

“We are becoming a resource center. We have information and flyers in the registration area. I am a pastor and when people would like to talk to me and/or have a prayer, I invite them into my office. They walk out more peaceful than they came in.
