The Salvation Army Red Kettles have been a holiday tradition since 1891. But did you know, the money raised during our kettle campaign is used to bring joy and relief to those in need throughout the entire year?

When you volunteer to stand at our kettles, you’re not just ringing a bell… you’re changing lives and strengthening our community.

The official Red Kettle Kickoff ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8. The event was attended by numerous members of the community. Among the area notables who were present were former Sheriff Duane Wirth, current Sheriff Dave Ernest, Mayor Mike Chamberlain, City Clerk Shauna Arco, Doctor Robert Kopp, Mr. John Wolf, and Mr. Jim Cox.

Mayor Mike was among the speakers at the event. “I am humbled by being asked to address you today,” he said. “The City of Belvidere appreciates the Salvation Army. Hundreds of people depend on the Salvation Army every year. Over 300 families will be helped over the holidays and another 2000 families will receive assistance from the Salvation Army throughout the year.

“Give what you can and give when you can. We all know it is Christmas when we see the red kettles.”

The goal for the Salvation Army this season is $60,000, which is a substantial increase from what the goal was last year. “The need is very great,” said Campaign Chairman John Wolf.
