Families who were looking for a fun and educational way to enjoy President’s Day were invited to attend OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center’s third annual “Safety Bowl” on Monday, Feb. 18, at the Belvidere YMCA, 220 W. Locust St. The free event was designed for children from ages 5 to 12 and ran from 9 a.m. to noon.

“This is our third Safety Bowl,” said Dietician Nathan Hamman. “The first one we had at the hospital and families had to come to us. Last year we reached out to the YMCA, where kids already were. We hope to make the Safety Bowl bigger each year.

“We have a variety of eight health and wellness activities where kids can learn how to make good decisions about their health. This year we have the Sophomore Basketball team from Belvidere High School teaching the kids about the sport. We have dancing. We have kid-friendly recipes to get the kids more active in the kitchen.
