mile run will begin at 1800 N. State St., Manley’s Belvidere Ford-Lincoln.

Participants will run as a group to support and encourage each other. They will move at about a 10-minute-per-mile pace. Participants can run any portion of the event. If you get tired, there are support vehicles to carry you on. This is not an endurance event. It is not a race. It is a fun run to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics of Illinois.

First responders, a police squad car, an EMS vehicle and a BFD fire engine accompany the group. They will be met at Belvidere High School by Special Olympic athletes who will do a lap around the track with the runners before the group heads back to the starting point.

Runners must wear the 2019 Law Enforcement Torch Run t-shirt. These are available in the detectives’ office at the Public Safety Building, 615 N. Main St. for $20. They can also be found at the Belvidere Republican office at 130 S. State St.

All runners are welcome whether you are new to running or are a pro.

If you have no interest in running, but wish to support the Special Olympics athletes, you can still purchase a t-shirt. Also available are event baseball caps for $15, lapel pins for $5, and raffle tickets for a UTV are $10.

Call 815-547-6444 for Detective Kozlowski or 815-547-6445 for Detective Delavan for further information.
