Students of St. James Catholic School line up to tour the Belvidere Fire Dept. Engine 101 while Officer Friendly gets a ‘high five’ for giving out stickers and making the kids smile during their final field day picnic.

St. James Catholic School took their kids, from tall to small, on a field trip to Prairie Fields Park, 1111 Fairgrounds Road. Special guests for the afternoon were Officer Blankenship of the Belvidere Police Dept. and members of the Belvidere Fire Dept. Officer Blankenship brought a Police Humvee for the kids to check out. The BFD firefighters brought Fire Engine 101 with them and the kids got to go inside and learn about the engine.

“It’s been an awesome year,” said St. James fifth grade teacher Rebecca Payne. “We have done a lot of service projects. The fifth grade class made May Day baskets for the residents of Heritage Woods, for one. On Monday, the fifth through seventh grades did a day of cleaning the entire school, inside and out.
