Aftermath of a fire at the northwest corner of Benton and Main streets – 1909

With south Benton Street undergoing changes, it’s a good time to revisit the history of the downtown block! Join the Winnebago Community Historical Society for our program–Benton Street Through the Years. John Rowley will take us building by building through the years. Alta Straley will talk about the Village Centre era in the 1960’s. There will be lots of photos! We’ll welcome your help with gaps in our records about the street and the buildings.
The program is Sunday, June 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Winnebago Public Library, 210 N Elida St. Admission is free for WCHS members and $5 per person for non-members. To purchase tickets or join WCHS as an annual or lifetime member, visit Winnebago Public Library or email [email protected]. Tickets will be available at the door as long as there is still space available.
For more information about WCHS or this meeting, find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/winnebagocommunityhistoricalsociety/ or email us at [email protected].
