October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Real Men Wear Pink competition between Boone and Winnebago Counties to raise funds for the American Cancer Society is on once again.

Two years ago Mayor Mike Chamberlain was the sole representative from Boone County while Winnebago County fielded five candidates of their own to raise funds. Mayor Mike, with the full support of Belvidere, Boone County, and the help of the Belvidere Education Foundation, was able to raise $5965 in donations. This put him in first place for his fundraising efforts, earning as much as the top two competitors from Winnebago County.

Last year, Belvidere Fire Chief Al Hyser was asked to participate as the only representative from Boone County. Police Chief Shane Woody has volunteered to be this year’s representative for the City of Belvidere and Boone County in the fund raising campaign of Real Men Wear Pink for the fight against breast cancer. He will be doing some fund raising events and is coming up with some different ideas for raising money for this worthy cause. He has already made a great start for the cause but events are still being put together and we should know more about them in the next week or two.

Chief Woody met a lady by the name of Nancy at the American Cancer Society kickoff breakfast. She is currently fighting breast cancer and has taken the fight to the disease. Together they are trying to raise as much money to fight breast cancer as they can. Come out to any of Chief Woody’s events to support Linda in this fight and share in her story.

If you can find it in your hearts and wallets to donate, please see Chief Woody’s campaign page at…. “All of you can help by getting the word out by sharing this information and increase our donation power 10 fold. My campaign page says my goal is $2500 dollars but actually I am trying to come up with at least $5000 in donations. Go big or go home, right!” said Chief Woody. “All those who donate will have the opportunity to…
