Nancy Noel Tobin, 71, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Belvidere, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 peacefully at her home. The beloved daughter of the late Linus and Monetta (O’Leary) McKeown she was born on October 1, 1947 in Rockford. She married the late Paul Douglas Tobin on June 14, 1969 at St. James Catholic Church in Belvidere.

She attended St. James Catholic School, graduated from Belvidere High School, and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Illinois University. She began her teaching career, took a decade off to be at home when her own kids were young, and then taught Spanish and English at Forreston High School until her retirement. She loved reading, seeing musicals, traveling, and was a life-long learner. Her three grandchildren were the center of her universe; she was a very loving, involved “Nana”, frequently taking them swimming, having them over for sleepovers, and attending their sport and school events. She organized family trips to Disney World and Beachwalk on Lake Michigan that made memories the grandkids will cherish for their lifetimes. Nancy had a passion for people and loved helping those less fortunate, whether it be with a donation, a ride to the doctor or babysitting, or a shoulder to cry on.

She will be deeply missed by her children Shannon (Jim Miller) and Douglas (Amy), grandkids Samuel Tobin, Gabrielle Miller, and Alexander Tobin, “sister-like” cousin, Kristine Hammerstrand, her beloved dog Molly, and many friends and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband, and many aunts and uncles.

There will be a visitation on Friday, Sept. 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ in the Welcome Center, 315 E. St. Charles Road Elmhurst. There will be a second visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept.r 28 at Belvidere Funeral Home in Belvidere. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Interment in Belvidere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to either WTTW PBS television or WBEZ NPR radio, as she was a fierce supporter of public broadcasting. Donations can also be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
