The course takes you through the Victorian Village and on the adjacent Rec Path. Registration for this year’s Trick or Trot is underway!
The USATF Certified Course (IL15019NM) is 3.1 miles on paved and gravel in the Victorian Village and Recreation Path on the Midway Village Museum campus. According to Madison Harmsen’s mom, Shelley Harmsen, she decided to run in the Trick or Trot last year because she thought that the race looked fun, getting to wear costumes and run through Midway Village. The race was right after she finished up her middle school cross country season and she wanted to run some races for fun.
“The experience was great,” said Shelley. “The course was easy to follow and fun running in costume. The event was well run and the awards were cool looking. We would definitely recommend the race to anyone.”
Madison has only been running for two years, and she is in an eighth-grade student at Maria Montessori School in Rockford. Last year, she dressed up like a blue M & M and a friend dressed up like a red M & M. They won best costume in their age group.
“I just started running races last year and I always find it to be fun and stress relieving,” said Madison. “I like to go out and run with all my friends and have a good time. The Trick or Trot was especially fun because I was able to run throughout Midway Village and all the nature around it. Everyone was really supportive.”
The Trick or Trot is a fundraiser for history education programs at the museum. In its 5th year, the fundraiser is upcoming on Sunday, Oct. 20. You may register in advance or the day of the run starting at 7 am.
