“Due to the generosity of the community,” said Deputy Chief Matt Wallace, “the Belvidere Police Dept. is able to provide three mobile food pantries this year with enough food for 250 families each time. Our first one is at the B1 church, 1105 7th Ave. on Tuesday, May 5 from 4-5:30 p.m. The next one will be at General Mills Park and the last one will be held at the Public Safety Building.”

“We’re working with the Belvidere Police Dept.,” Pastor David Smith of B1 said. “The BPD is awesome. Chief Woody is out there slinging boxes, as are Deputy Chiefs Wallace and Gardner, and a number of other officers.”

One of the people in line for food at the pantry said, “I really appreciate everything you guys do.”

Kristen Smith, director of the B1 Food Pantry, said, “The Belvidere Police Dept. gave us a sizable donation and came out to help us hand it out. Chrysler has also given us a substantial donation for another mobile food pantry.”

As the police volunteers were pulling food off the truck, Scott Bolin, Northern Illinois Food Bank delivery, said, “The NIFB does this three times a day around the area. We support 13 counties.”

In these lean times during the pandemic that keeps people away from work and wondering where their next meal is coming from, it heart-warming to find the BPD and other organizations and businesses going above and beyond to help the community.
