Rockton resident Charmel Jacobs comes from a long line of family members who have served our country. On the fourth of July Jacobs organized a neighborhood parade including her children and grandchildren in an unforgettable holiday.

As parade participants rode down the street proudly in decorated bikes several residents stood outside cheering them on while celebrating the good old USA.

“My Dad and brothers were all in the Army. My brother Melvin Leindecker was in the Navy. My Father-in-law, Gerald Jacobs Sr. also served in the Army,” Jacobs said. Most recently her niece Chelsea Sepulveda is serving in the Air Force along with Jacobs’s nephew. Jacobs Father-law was active in a foreign war; he was a POW captured at the Battle of the Bulge.

Jacobs neighbor Mr. Lanny Wong served as a Paratrooper in the 509th Airborne Infantry. Wong is also a former Combat Medic Instructor at the U.S. Army Department of the Army. Adding great fun to the Fourth of July parade Wong talked to the group about his experiences as a paratrooper in addition to handing out goodie bags to each. Inside the bags were candy, toy soldiers and items that represented each of the four branches of service.

“My aim in organizing this event was to celebrate our country with our neighbors while teaching my grandchildren the importance of patriotism, respect and gratitude,” said Jacobs.
