Paige Bukoski earned top honors as the Medalist in the recent Lady Tigers triumph over conference rival Stillman Valley. It was a match that could double as a preview for next week’s Conference Tournament in northern Boone County.

Timber Point Golf Club outside Poplar Grove will be the host site this season for the annual Big Northern Conference Tournament, with matches scheduled to be played on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Everyone is invited.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, Byron played host to its nearest neighbor in the Big Northern as they faced down Stillman Valley at Prairie View, in a post-season premiere.

When the tufts had settled and the strokes were counted, Byron found it had managed to control Stillman Valley throughout the day and as a result, capture the eventual 14-stroke victory, 198-212.

Bukowski closed down Prairie View with the day’s best mark of 44. Her Medalist honor helped secure the win for Byron as she received substantial assistance from her ambush of Lady Tigers.

The Tigers tee-er was three strokes stronger than Runner Up recipient, Grace Haas of Stillman Valley. She shot a 47.

Helping secure the victory for Byron on Wednesday afternoon relied on the aid of teammates Ava Kultgen who shot a 50, Grace Kultgen with her 51 and Addie Ebersohl, who signed her card with a 53.

Two other shooters for Byron also finished in the top tier during mid-week play with Shannon and Abbey Baker closing their rounds with matching tallies of 54.

Stillman Valley was led by Grace Haas, who has found herself often piloting the still developing Lady Cardinals complex of chippers. She shot a 47 and was four strokes stronger than teammate Olivia Schoenrock, who has played at a consistent level through much of the season.

Ella Challand and Nora Derosso’s marks of 57 were tallied giving visiting Stillman Valley its 212 total.

Aubrey Craig closed her day with a 60 for the Lady Cardinals with Audra Miles ending action with a day’s high water mark of 67.

On the boy’s side, things didn’t work out as well for the Byron Tigers as they fell by four strokes to the visitors from the east, 171-175.

Maison Brandt did earn Medalist Honors for the Tigers though, as he finished his round with the only under 40 score of the day.

Brandt’s 39 meant Stillman Valley’s Tim Marcum and his 40 would have to settle for Runner Up recognition on the day.

The Tigers team total featured a strong showing, collectively, with seven strokes marking the difference between Medalist awards and matching 46s to round out the scorecard for both Logan Remhof and Brogan Griffith.

Eric Detig’s 44 was the second best score total of the day for the host Tigers, but it wouldn’t be enough to prevent Byron from suffering the four stroke loss to the conference challenging Cardinals.

Brayden Baker ended match play with a 51 and Ran Larson closed scoring with a 52 for the Tigers.

Stillman Valley was led by Marcum and his 40 and supported in the win by Owen Dunseth, who picked up a 42. Griffin Smitts who signed off on a 44 and Axel Lovgren with a 45 gave the Cardinals claim to the win with their 171-team total.

Patrick Hickey’s 48 and Chad Gerig’s 51 were not needed by Stillman Valley, in calculating the final result.
