ROCKTON – The 45th annual Hononegah Women’s Club Art Fair in Village Park on Sunday, Aug. 16, satisfied art and craft enthusiasts as well as home-made pie lovers.

Dr. Joan Kole, chairman and President of Hononeagh Women’s Club said the art fair is the only fundraiser the club sponsors.  Academic scholarships for Hononegah High School seniors; Camp scholarships, “Adopt a resident” Program at Fair Oaks Nursing Home; Holiday “Giving Tree”; Sponsorship of various public library projects and the annual “Make a difference Day” are some of the philanthropic projects the club undertakes.

This was the second year for the pie-tasting contest. Samples of 13 home-made pies were gobbled up  by celebrity judges Ryan Rydell – Rockton Chamber; Megan Forsyth – Principal at Whitman Post School; Kevin Burns – owner of Anytime Fitness and Nick Toma – television anchor.

First place honors went to Sandy Stamm for her apple pie.  Nilene Covert came in second and Peg La Forge, third.  Following the contest, visitors could purchase a slice of pie topped with ice cream from the DairyHaus.

Kole said there are currently 31Hononegah Women’s Club members. “We are always looking for new members. We have so much fun and get so much done.”

According to the Club’s brochure, the purpose of the Hononegah Woman’s club is “the pursuit of adult education, general philanthropic and community service” as well as social activities for members.
