BELVIDERE – The Belvidere boys’ soccer team competed in the Auburn Tournament on Friday, Aug. 28 and Saturday, Aug. 29. The Belvidere team shot 22 times with eight of them making goals.

On Friday, Aug. 28, Belvidere faced Guilford in the Auburn Tournament winning 1-0.

Juan Resendiz made the one and only goal in the first period out of a total of 17 shots taken in the entire game from Belvidere. He was able to sneak one goal past Guilford’s goalie, A. Benitez. Guilford made six attempts with none of the goals making it past E. Gomez.

This game put Belvidere at a 2-1 record.

Also on Friday, Aug. 28, Belvidere face Wauconda and won with a total of 4-0.

Out of 23 shots, four made it in the goal easing Belvidere into a victory. Reues, #11, made the first goal in the first period with an assist from Mark Silis and Danny Ponce, #9, made the second goal in the first.

In the second period, the Belvidere Bucs made their last two goals against Wauconda’s goalie R. Salgado. J. Nava, #13, scored the first goal in the second period with Ben Delgado on the assist. Juan Resendiz scored the last point of the game with an assist from Jose Mencillas. This put Belvidere at a 3-1 record.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Belvidere Bucs won against Auburn High School with a total of 8-0.

Juan Resendiz made the first goal in the first period with an assist from Danny Ponce. Jose Mencillas made the second goal in the first period with an assist from J. Nava.

Also scoring in the first period were Mark Silis with an assist from L. Limon and David Rivera with an assist from S. Vilchis.

In the second period, the Bucs stayed strong with Danny Ponce and Bernardo Dominguez both scoring goals.

In the third period, Juan Resendiz scored again with an assist this time from Jose Mencillas and Jorge Resendiz also scored with the last goal of the night with an assist from David Rivera.

All in all, the Belvidere Bucs had strong performances from all of the team from the assistants, the scorers, and the goal keeper who didn’t let anything by him, E. Gomez.

This put Belvidere at a 4-1 record.

Belvidere’s last game on Saturday, Aug. 29, featured the Belvidere Bucs winning against Harlem with a score of 2-1.

Belvidere took the lead early in the first period with Fernando scoring with an assist from Saulv.

In the second period, David Rivera scored putting Belvidere farther into the lead. David H. off of Harlem’s team also scored in the second, but it wasn’t enough to take the game away from Belvidere.

Belvidere ended the tournament with a 5-1 record.
