CHERRY VALLEY – More than the season is turning at the Cherry Valley Public Library District where director Eve Kirk is stepping down.

In the last 15+ years, Kirk has overseen the transformation of the library’s public services to a 21st century model that includes digital delivery of media, public computing and training, creative programming for all ages, community use of small and large meeting rooms, and passport application services.

Checkout of reading materials continues to increase.  Under Kirk’s direction, an expansion and complete renovation of the library facility was completed in 2013, with construction of a storage garage and enlargement of the parking lot in 2014.  Volunteers and friends of the Cherry Valley Library have been integral to these library improvements.

Jane Lenser of Belvidere, has been selected by the Library Board to succeed Kirk.

Lenser is a familiar face to librarians across northern Illinois where she formerly served as a consultant for the Northern Illinois, Prairie Area, and North Suburban (Wheeling) Library Systems.  She also served as the library director at the Winnebago Public Library and most recently, librarian for the North Boone School District.

A meet and greet, sponsored by the Library Board and Friends of the Library, is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., for the public to greet Eve Kirk and wish her happy retirement, and meet Jane Lenser to welcome her to the Cherry Valley Library.
