ROCKFORD – The State of Illinois recently officially recognized Walmart and the Walmart Foundation for its contributions to Northern Illinois Food Bank, specifically citing the more than $500,000 donated to Northern Illinois Food Bank in the last five years.

State Representative John M. Cabello (68th District – Machesney Park), who offered the recognition to the Illinois House of Representatives, presented the official certificate to Dan Ketcham, Walmart Market Manager for the Rockford area, at Walmart’s Rockford store.

“Walmart’s continuous commitment to help families in need deserves recognition,” said Rep. Cabello. “Hardworking families in our region benefit from Walmart’s generous donations. It’s important that we highlight their efforts as they invest to make our community a better place to live.”

The recognition notes over $500,000 in financial contributions from Walmart and the Walmart Foundation, as well as food donations from Walmart and Walmart associate volunteer hours.

“We are incredibly humbled to be honored by the State of Illinois and are grateful for Representative Cabello’s efforts,” said Ketcham. “It’s important to note that not only do Walmart and the Walmart Foundation donate funds to organizations like the Northern Illinois Food Bank but also Walmart donates food and our Associates frequently donate their time as well.”

“Northern Illinois Food Bank is grateful for the wide range of support Walmart provides to help our mission of solving hunger in northern Illinois,” said Donna Lake, Northern Illinois Food Bank’s director of communications and philanthropy.

“Through donations of food, funds and time, Walmart and its employees make an impact in the lives of our hungry neighbors.”

Earlier this year, the Walmart Foundation donated $140,000 to three Northern Illinois non-profits: the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, Remedies Renewing Lives, and the Belvidere Boone County Food Pantry.

Additionally, through Walmart’s nationwide Fight Hunger. Spark Change initiative, the Northern Illinois Food Bank received a donation over $120,000.
