MACHESNEY PARK – The Harlem Lady Huskies prepared for their NIC-10 clash with the Hononegah Lady Indians on Friday, Jan. 8, by competing outside of the conference against some of the toughest programs in the State.

After closing the 2015 portion of their winter sports schedule with back-to-back losses to Downers Grove South on Dec. 22, in which the Lady Huskies fell, 54-46 and Oswego East on Dec. 23, where Harlem dropped a 20-plus point decision, a win over Lemont helped get the focus back, taking the after Christmas contest 65-44.

As the calendar turned into January, the Lady Huskies got back in the swing, as they ran over Rockford Jefferson, 65-26, in NIC-10 play.

The Lady J-Hawks could not stop the Harlem attack, as the Lady Huskies jumped out to an unrecoverable lead.

With a lot of attention being focused on the final few weeks of the regular season, the battle for the top spot in the NIC-10 continued on Friday, Jan. 8, as the Lady Huskies played host to the Hononegah Lady Indians.

The game would not got the way Harlem needed as they dropped a game back in the standings, following their 65-46 loss.

The regular season will wrap up for Harlem in a little over three weeks, with contests slated against Belvidere this Friday, Jan. 15, on the road, followed by a Tuesday, Jan. 19 match against Belvidere North at home.

With winnable games in front of Harlem on Jan. 22, against Freeport and on Jan. 26 against Guilford, the Lady Huskies will get their chance to refine their play, as they prepare for a match against one of the NIC-10 front-runners, Rockford Boylan, to close January.

With a favorable final three game schedule set for Harlem, with matches against Rockford East, Rockford Jefferson and Auburn, the Lady Huskies could appear to be ready to enter the 2016 Class 4A State Playoffs on Monday, Feb. 12, on a bit of a roll.

The battle for the NIC-10 title, currently being waged against Boylan and Hononegah, may come down to the final week, with Harlem expected to enter the post-season on a moderate streak.
