BMS advances to State for the 24th year!

BYRON – Congratulations to Byron Middle School’s MathCounts team member Brock Wilson for taking top honors at regional competition held at Sauk Valley Community College on Saturday, Feb. 13. He will be going to state competition that will be held in Lisle on Saturday, March 19. This is the 24th year that Byron Middle School math students have received top honors and advanced to state competition.

Byron’s team consisting of Brock Wilson, Cas Ingram, Madeleine Brass and Brody Johnson received trophies for taking third place overall.

In the oral math competition, three Byron students made it in the top eight: Brock Wilson, Cas Ingram and Geoffrey VanHeeren.

Byron Middle School had three students in the top four win honors in the Alternates division. Will Almy brought home a first place trophy, Maddy Cope took second place and Anika Roush took fourth place.

Altogether Byron brought home 10 awards.

Other Byron Middle School students who competed at Sauk Valley College were  Lauren Mondello, Rebekah Starwalt, Kennedy Turner, Izzie McKinley, Isaac Mondello, Alana Julian, Evan Potter, and Lizzy Moore. Congratulations to all of the students on their outstanding performance.

Byron Middle School MathCounts teams are coached by Jackie DeVries. Coach DeVries started MathCounts at Byron Middle School 27 years ago and has been coaching teams since its inception.
