LOVES PARK – The Loves Park City Council met March 21 and one issue of concern to residents is radium.

Per Alderman A. Marie Holmes, radium in the city’s water supply rose one tenth of one percent and due to that fact some city residents are receiving notices that the radium in their water “exceeds maximum levels.”

It does not apply to all locations in Loves Park. Notices have been sent with water bills to those in the affected area. Dan Jacobson, Director of Public Works and Development, has noted that it is not a safety issue and it is safe to drink the water. If a resident has questions, the department can be reached at (815) 654-5033.

A public hearing was held March 21 regarding the Forest Hills Road Business District and adoption of a Redevelopment Plan for it.

Aldermen gave their okay for payment of bills as presented on March 14 – $8,686.40 in water department bills, and $386,075.88 in general fund and all other bills.

Alderman Clint Little gave the weekly police activity report for the week of March 13-19 in which 552 calls for service, 259 arrests, and eight accidents were reported. On the weekly fire department report dated March 20, seven false fire alarms, one mutual aid call, three wires down calls, one carbon monoxide or gas leak call, one public service call, and one smoke or odor investigation call were reported.

A resolution authorizing a contract with Great Lakes Water Resources Group in Durand at a cost not to exceed $19,500, for iron bacteria treatment of Water Well No. 1 was approved.
