STATELINE – Roscoe’s boys bowling team rose one place in the standings during the Saturday final round and came in second at the state middle school bowling tournament in Joliet.

Harlem’s girls were fifth after the preliminary round on Friday and remained there through Saturday’s finals.

The event was hosted by the Illinois Elementary School Association and this was the fourth year for team competition. The Lady Huskies had won the first three championships, while the Roscoe boys team won it all two years ago.

Shorewood Troy won both the boys and girls titles this year.

In boys competition they had a 6,746 pinfall, well ahead of runner-up Roscoe, which rang up a 6,411.

The NIC-10 was well represented with Freeport Carl Sandburg taking fourth in boys action and third among girls’ teams.

The other Freeport entry came in eighth in girls’ competition.

Roscoe was led by Cameron Tyler who had a 10-game series of 1,925 pins, good for seventh place among 176 individuals. He had a high single game of 245.

Justin Mooney was close by in 10th place, totaling 1,889 pins and recording a 233 single game.

Ty Wasserman was next for Roscoe, in 32nd place with a 1,707 pinfall over nine games, posting a high of 258. He was followed by James Lawson in 35th with a 1,697 and a high game of 243;

All are seventh graders, so they’ll be back next year.

Also competing for Roscoe was yet another seventh-grader James Stewart, who bowled one game, a 210.

Harlem was paced by eighth-grader Lianna Summers in 12th place individually with a 1,636 series over 10 games, which included a 215 high single game. Laura Bartlett, also in eighth grade, finished 15th with 1,581 pins and a 208 high game.

Another eighth-grader, Amanda Bohn, claimed 30th place among 162 bowlers with 1,478 pins and a high game of 169. Teammate Joana Araojo, who’s in seventh grade, was 68th, compiling 1,076 pins in seven games with a 180 high game.

Roscoe girls were 26th on Friday so they didn’t make the finals. But they had one individual qualifier, sixth-grader Reghan Unger, who wound up 17th with a 1,586 series over 10 games and a high single game of 215.

Rockford Flinn’s girls team did not qualify for the finals, either, but it had two advance as individuals. Seventh-grader Veronica Fox finished 35th with 1,434 pins and a high game of 187. Karah Kelp, in eighth grade, was 44th with a 1,386 series that included a 191 high game.
