Master Naturalist Class ready to assist partners

June 13 marked the end of the twelve-week Master Naturalist training program in Ogle County. Fifteen Master Naturalist Interns now join the ranks of University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists. University of Illinois Extension would like to congratulate our current graduates and thank them for choosing to join this valuable program.

The University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist program is designed for adults of any age, who desire the opportunity, to learn about and positively impact their local environment. The mission of the program is to provide science-based educational opportunities that connect people with nature and help them become engaged environmental stewards.

Master Naturalists agree to complete 40 hours of field and classroom learning during the training and 60 hours volunteer service within two years to become a Certified Master Naturalist. To remain active in the program, an additional 30 hours of volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education must be completed yearly. In 2015, University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalists, in Boone, DeKalb and Ogle Counties, volunteered over 2,275 hours of stewardship for our parks, forest preserves, and other partners.

If you have questions about the Master Naturalist program or you are an organization who feels these trained volunteers could be of service to your business please feel free to contact Extension Program Coordinator, Judy Hodge at [email protected]  or by phone 815/544.3710.
