Police honored

On the evening of May 2, police officers in Loves Park and fire department personnel all responded to a what could possibly have been a fatal situation at a multi-family complex on fire. Personnel entered the smoke filled building and saved a family of eight that lived there.

The law enforcement officers were honored with service awards by Fire Chief Phil Foley and fire department members for their quick response in what could have ended very differently from what it did.

Loves Park police officers recognized were; Sergeant Mike Landman, and Officers Kurt Cutler, Brian Britnell, Sean Kahly, and Colleen Gaspard. Additionally, and off-duty officer, Jason Personette from Cherry Valley, also participated in the rescue.

In other business, Alderman Clint Little gave the weekly police department report for the week of July 10-16 in which 546 calls for services, 243 arrests, and 17 accidents were noted. On the July 17 fire department report, the department responded to five fire calls and one natural gas call.

A resolution authorizing Mayor Darryl Lindberg to seek negotiated bids for sandblasting, repair and painting of the front entry way and soffit into the Loves Park municipal complex was approved.

Cardinal Glass Co. received the okay to replace double outside doors on the east end of the GPAC corridor located within the complex at a cost not to exceed $6,615.

A resolution was approved appropriating Motor Fuel Tax funds for the 2016 Maintenance Program – for maintenance and repair of city roads at a cost not to exceed $300,000.

An ordinance, second reading, “making appropriation for corporate purpose for the fiscal year 2016-2017 (annual budget) was passed, total amount being $29,549,702.
