The Belvidere varsity girls’ co-op golf team was at it again on Thursday, Aug. 18. In this match, the Belvidere girls defeated Marengo High School at home at Timber Pointe Golf Club in Poplar Grove.

Belvidere won the match with an overall team score of 194 points versus Marengo’s score of 221 points. The lowest scores from the top four athletes on each team accounted for team scores.

The varsity gave it their all with team member Maddie Strum really shining with the lowest score out of any player on either team. Strum finished the match with a score of 44 points.

Since she was the lowest scoring golfer in the match, Strum was the match medalist.

“Congratulations to Maddie Strum for medaling,” Coach Dan Koening said.

The other players on the Belvidere co-op team that rounded out the final four were Sara Redig, Morgan McNulty, and Christine Chustak.

Redig and McNulty both tied with a score of 48 and Chustak finished with an overall score of 54 points.

Other players on the team who played hard for the team were Natalie Altintop and Gracie Thies. Altintop and Thies both finished with a score of 55.

Marengo just couldn’t keep up with the low scores from the Belvidere girls, with their lowest scoring player, Nina Reed, finishing the match with 50 points. Marengo teammates Alyssa Pfeff, Paige Schulze, and Caitlin Alejandre rounded out the top four. Pfeff finished with 54 points, Schulze with 55 points, and Alejandre with 59 points.

The other Marengo girls who competed were Jess Ruelius and Madelyn Witwicke. Ruelius finished the course with 62 points and Witwicke finished with 72 points.

With this win, the Belvidere girls strengthen their season lead 2-0.
