Hononegah once again will have a presence at the wrestling tournament in Champain-Urbana, as three competitors made it out of the Barrington sectional last Saturday.
The Indians had champions in senior Blake Zalapi (10-0) at 220 pounds and junior Tony Cassioppi (43-0) at 285 pounds. Senior Jordan Shahrikian (31-4) wound up third at 182 pounds.
Meanwhile, junior Jordan Davenport logged a six-game 1,232 series in the Feb. 11 Belvidere sectional to qualify for the state tournament, being held this Friday and Saturday at The Cherry Bowl in nearby Cherry Valley. She edged teammate Cierra Conrad, a senior, for the fifth and final qualifying spot. Conrad rolled a 1,204 at Forest Hills Lanes in Loves Park.
Rival Harlem led team competition from the beginning and wound up winning the sectional with a 6,401 pinfall. That total was highest among the six sectional champions.
Cassioppi, who finished third at state last year, had little difficulty claiming the sectional wrestling title
