Nellie’s Barn Sale, celebrating their 12th year, has been named one of the “Best Fall Flea & Tent Events” in the current issue of Romantic Country magazine, published by Athlon Sports Communications. The annual two day market, tagged as a “Vintage Extravaganza,” is located once again at 10985 Main St. in Roscoe. This year’s shopping scene includes 60 vendors selling a variety of vintage “loot” in a two acre field and adjacent lot.  Held Oct. 7 – 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days; this outdoor event features the best in vintage swag, salvage, farmhouse finds, cottage and shabby, industrial, boho and gypsy styles, and handmade jewelry and clothing. A new feature this year that is sure to be a crowd favorite is JUNK STOP, a drink café serving up wine, libations, cold brews and hot toddies. Show organizer Ann Campos said, “Our vendors come from not only Illinois, but also from Wisconsin and as far as Indiana. They are the reason our event has become so popular and was noticed by the magazine. Their display talents are unmatched and they bring the best vintage for the best price.” The 2016 vendors can be found the rest of the year at some of the most popular vintage venues like Junk Jubilee, Farmgirl Flea, Kane County Flea Market, Three French Hens Market, Elkhorn Flea Market and HobNob. “You can stroll the grounds filled with salvage, vintage furniture and farmhouse goods to find that perfect piece that speaks to you. And, this year you can sip and stroll with a yummy wine, beer or hot toddy,” Campos says. Recent trends of re-purposing almost every kind of found object has resulted in over-the-top popularity for vintage items. “This is not your grandmother’s antique show or a typical flea market,” she says. “Our show is a juried event with vendors chosen based on their curated goods. Today’s vintage sellers serve up an eclectic look for homes, cottages and urban lifestyles. Young and old alike are taking pieces such as farm windmills, old cameras, galvanized funnels and vintage pickup truck grills and turning them into one-of-a-kind décor for their home.” The show also features live music from local musicians, including easy rock and pop sounds. The 2016 lineup includes Ron Rawhoof, Andrew Robinson, The Lone Canary, Thinking Aloud, Kip Kapfer and Ryan Bielefeldt.  Savory food, apple cider donuts and cupcakes will also be on hand. Campos gives a portion of her proceeds to the local Roscoe Boy Scout Troop 620.
