Originally, the Pettit Chapel Mural dedication was to be a posh event on Friday, Sept. 7, with heavy hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and shuttles to the Pettit Chapel for tours. It was to be held at the Boone County Museum of History and tickets cost $30 each.
“This flag flew at Ground Zero during the recovery effort,” Chief Al Hyser said. “We keep the flag here at Station 1 in a special case. We bring it out every 9-11 to commemorate that day.
The Belvidere Fire Dept. would like to thank the community for supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) with our collection on Labor Day. We were able to raise a considerable amount of money even though the weather didn’t cooperate.

The Belvidere-Boone County Food Pantry in Capron opened their doors on Thursday, Sept. 13 so interested people could view their newly expanded and organized facilities and to highlight Hunger Action Month.
The Belvidere Cemetery Tour highlighted 47 points of interest with notes of explanation and places to note as you moved from one point to another. The highlighted points of interest were marked with helium balloons to be easily found and a number of them had people dressed in period outfits, personifying one of the persons buried there.
“This is evidence of the positive things that can be achieved for the citizens of the community by government and the private sector working together,” said Mayor Mike Chamberlain.
“We can stop a car for things like speeding, not wearing a seat belt, illegal lane change, expired license plates, not using a turn signal, violating a stop sign/light and many more reasons. We have an entire manual just on traffic enforcement.
“This is the first year as Up in the Air,” said Betheny Kopera, special events coordinator for the Belvidere Park District. “Previously, this event was the Family Kite Fly. We have partnered with several organizations,
