YAH Parade award winners announced

The recent Young at Heart Parade award winners were announced and presented with their plaques at the June 12 city council meeting in Loves Park.
“Best Commercial” entry went to Applebee’s on E. Riverside Blvd.
“Best Community Service” entry was Vets Roll and also the Gentleman’s Car Club. “Best Youth Group” awards went to Cub Scout Pack No. 396 and St. Bridget’s Scouting Program entries.
“Mayor’s Choice Award” was presented to a Rock Valley Credit Union representative.
“Best Entry: Preserve the Environment” was won by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clifford Johnson VFW Post No. 9759.
The “Parade Committee Choice” award went to Practice Velocity.
A $50 gift certificate from the Backyard Grill and Bar went to William Charles Co. and to the Rockford Odd Fellows &Rebekahs.
In other business, aldermen approved payment of $35,778.92 in water department bills, and $337,700.77 in general fund and all other bills, as presented June 5.
Alderman Robert Schlensker gave the weekly police activity report for the week of June 4-10, in which 546 calls for service, 192 arrests, and eight accidents were reported. On the weekly fire department report dated June 11, four fire calls, three fire alarm calls, one mutual aid call, two natural gas leak calls, one assist police call, and four wires down calls were reported. During the week Fire Chief Phil Foley issued a fireworks permit to RKM Fireworks for a Forest Hills Country Club event on June 28 and another on July 4.
City Clerk Bob Burden advised the council that the city had received $53,268.91 from the Illinois Department of Transportation in Motor Fuel Tax funds for the month of May.
Dennis Hendricks was appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals to fill the unexpired term of Thomas Freesmeier with the term set to expire on June 30, 2021. According to Mayor Greg Jury, “Mr. Hendricks is a long time employee of the Rockford Mass Transit District and I know he will do a great job for the city.”
A resolution authorizing engineering proposals for analysis of the Park Hills and Mulford Hills drainage ditch was approved.
