Twice the history made for Winnebago boy’s basketball
History was made twice during the Winnebago Indians boy’s basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 22, against Stillman Valley. Two players joined the exclusive 1000-point club in front of the home crowd that night.
Andrew Morrissey was the first to accomplish the feat as he banged home a lay-up in the second period. Morrissey only needed 13 points to reach the plateau. Play was halted after Morrissey’s basket and Coach Murphy presented him with the basketball Morrissey used to make the historic basket.
Ty Waller was the other player to reach the historic mark that night. He had to work a little hard to get to that point, as he needed 29 points to reach the 1000 mark. With the game easily in hand by halftime, Coach Murphy let Waller play in the third quarter. Waller did not disappoint as he kept up the scoring and finally reached the 1000 mark on a high-flying lay-up. The game was then again stopped as Coach Murphy presented Waller with the ball he used in scoring his 1000th point.
