Choir students sing at Western Illinois University
This past March nine Byron Middle School Choir students participated in an honor choir festival at Western Illinois University. The students were selected for the event by recording a CD containing a solo “The Water is Wide,” a major scale, and “America.”
Each student’s recording was sent to Western Illinois Music Department who then listened to the hundreds of submissions and they then selected the students to attend the festival. Students prepared three choir selections before they attended the event.
On March 22, they set off for the event. The kids rehearsed from 9:30 a.m. to noon, took a break for lunch, listened to the college choir sing, and then had a final rehearsal from 2 to 4. The rehearsals were led by the college director Dr. Brian Winnie.
At 4 p.m. there was a final performance of the selections they worked on during the day. Several Byron families attended that performance. The students who participated in the event were: Macey Stoddard, Paityn Kann, Abbie Baker, Denise Braithwaite, Leila Spencer, Armani Paulino, Jericho Wilde, Maison Brandt, and Carson Buser.
